Ronald Reagan - The great communicator
Ronald Reagan (1911 / 2004)
Movie star, California Governor and the 40th president of the United States (1981-1989).
From humble beginnings as a radio announcer to an actor in films and television followed by a stunning career in politics, Ronald Reagan was a man of charisma who shined bright on the 20th century.
As a true icon of conservatism, Reagan stands to this day as the benchmark every other GOP candidate will be judged.
Storming the stage of national politics in 1964 with his famous "A time for choosing" speech, he established himself as a serious contender in the race to bring America back to it's republican values. He won the governorship of California not long after.
Running against President Jimmy Carter in 1980, Reagan handily won an astounding majority to become the 40th president of the United States.
Ushering in the American decade, he strived to turn the US around and make it regain it's sense of pride and destiny on the world stage as the "shining city on a hill".
As a lifelong opponent of communism Ronald Reagan bolstered Americas defenses, took a stand against illiberal values and toppled the wall of division between east and west; pushing the USSR over the edge and into oblivion.
Once again this painting was inspired by a biography I read last year; "Reagan-The life" by H.W. Brands.
Fascinated by the legendary character that was Ronald Reagan, reading through this book gave me a clearer understanding of the man behind the myth and the vision of what shaped such a crucial decade in world history.
